AWARE (Archives of Women Artists, Research & Exhibitions) is a French non-profit organization founded in 2014 and directed by art historian Camille Morineau. Composed of an international team, it works to bring visibility to women artists from the 17th to the 21st century. AWARE produces and publishes free content about their work on its website. It also offers a database, publications, exhibitions, and events. Its goal is to promote a more inclusive and equitable history of art.

AWARE x Luxembourg is a 2025 initiative born from a partnership between AWARE, the city of Esch-sur-Alzette and Konschthal Esch, with the aim shedding new light on Luxembourgian women artist through publications on AWARE’s website.

The program celebrates the richness and diversity of women’s artistic practices across media and generations, while underscoring their essential place in art history despite ongoing marginalization. Its broader ambition is to reevaluate prevailing art historical narratives by integrating women’s voices, their unique trajectories, and the wide range of media and practices they explore.

Guided by a research committee, the project ensures the careful selection of artists and authors, the production of biographies and research articles, and high standards of rigor and editorial quality.

Through this collaboration, AWARE continues its mission to highlight women artists on an international scale, while engaging with the cultural contexts and local dynamics specific to Luxembourg.

At the Konschthal, we support the visibility of women artists — emerging or established, from Luxembourg and beyond — to help build a fairer and more inclusive art scene.
