Led by trained lithographer Diane Demanet, this two-day masterclass offers a unique immersion into the world of stone printmaking. Lithography is a fascinating art form that makes it possible to print drawings through a very simple natural reaction: the repulsion between water and grease.
This immersive programme was designed to create a dialogue between the historic craft of lithography and a contemporary approach to the technique. This hands-on masterclass allows participants to understand, practise and make this traditional process their own, using it to develop their individual artistic language.
Educational and artistic objectives
- Understand the chemistry of the image: learn how to prepare the surface of the stone (graining), draw with greasy materials (crayons, inks) and permanently fix the drawing.
- Experiment with the parameters of printmaking: discover how a simple mark on the stone can be reinvented endlessly. Through demonstrations on the printing press, participants will explore the crucial importance of choosing papers and inks, revealing the unique magic of seeing the image emerge on paper.
- Print and collaborate in pairs: experience the collective dynamics of a printmaking studio. Working in pairs around the press allows participants to support one another, share the different gestures involved and gain a practical understanding of each stage of the printing process.
- Broaden your artistic horizons: make the technique your own and adapt it to your individual artistic practice. Participants will acquire the fundamental skills of stone lithography, enabling them to independently develop their own visual language.
We recommend wearing suitable work clothes that can get dirty. Aprons will be provided on site.
Participation on both days is mandatory.
