Concept, writing, performance: Sophie Langevin
The performance by artist Sophie Langevin is part of the exhibition DIS-PLACED II. Spectators are invited to listen to and observe a woman. "She" stands in front of a closed door, frozen in a moment of rupture, cast out of her home, out of her space, out of herself.
At a close distance, the spectator sees, listens, and observes from the privileged position of being alone in a room with the performed figure. He/she becomes a witness to a story that could also become their own. This proximity of shared experience is heightened by the text transmitted via headphones. In this scene, the setting is part of the story. It is even from this element that the narration begins and unfolds.
This new performance is part of the project Des portraits en chambre, an intentionally unfinished mosaic of intimate portraits of women grappling with their realities in a suspension of time.
The project began in 2021 during the opening of the AAPL studios as part of ArtWeek, and the latest performance was presented at OCAD in Toronto in November 2022.
Through questions and answers, your unique and sensitive identity card will take shape before your eyes, stamp by stamp. You will leave with this intimate and unconventional portrait of your journey.
